STOCKHOLM — Aug. 27, 2015 — Atlas Copco USA’s Water for All organization donated $50,000 to the charity Water for People in commemoration of its 31st anniversary, according to a press release.
The Denver-based charity will use the donation to support clean water and sanitation projects in Nicaragua, noted the release.
"Atlas Copco is committed to global sustainability and the Water for All program is just one way our employees act on that commitment," said Jim Levitt, president of Atlas Copco North America, in the release. "We are proud to support organizations like Water for People, who are committed to helping create a world where all people have access to clean water, adequate sanitation and basic health services."
Nicaragua is the poorest, yet most populous, country in Central America with a population of more than six million people, stated the release. The donation will go toward a program that brings clean drinking water, toilets, hand washing facilities and hygiene education to schools and communities in the country.
Water for All USA has donated $711,000 to fight the global water crisis since 2010, reported the release. The efforts provided clean drinking water to about 36,000 people.
Approximately 5,000 employees across 35 countries donate annually to the employee-run organization, stated the release. The Atlas Copco Group double-matches all employee donations, which go directly to the projects’ funding.
