KALMAR, Sweden — Sept. 14, 2015 — Jacobi Carbons’ newest coconut shell carbon activation plant is now operation, according to a press release.
The facility is located at Cagayan de Oro on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, noted the release. It will be the largest plant of its kind once it is fully operational by the end of 2015.
"This facility, with its size and sophistication, represents the state-of-the-art in carbon activation technology, and will give us greater flexibility to assure a consistent supply of high-quality activated carbons for our customers," stated Anders Skeini, CEO of Jacobi Carbons Group, in the release.
"Worldwide, customers are realizing the benefits of coconut shell-based carbons, and this facility will improve our ability to meet that growing demand," continued Skeini in the release. "Once completed, Jacobi’s global facilities of coconut shell carbon will have a production capacity in excess of 60,000 MT (130 million lbs.), making us by far the largest in the world."
The facility features a charcoal granulation plant, several activation kilns, grinding and pulverizing capacity, specialty impregnation and water/acid washing, stated the release.
Jacobi Carbons Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of Osaka Gas chemicals Co., Ltd., reported the release. It was founded in 1916.
