Movers & Shakers: Recycled rainwater in wine production, Silver Bullet names CEO
GE, UC Davis, Winesecrets use recycled rainwater in wine production
The University of California Davis (UC Davis) and wine production industry solutions provider Winesecrets partnered with GE to pilot an innovative program to use captured rainwater in wine production. By reusing rainwater, rather than pulling freshwater from the aquifer for wine production, the pilot program offers a unique way to supply the needed wash water for the wine production process. The pilot program comes as California’s agriculture continues to plan for months of extreme rain followed by months of longer drought, which could hinder the wine production in the area.

Siemens supplies 5 gas turbines, commissions industrial power plant
Siemens received an order for five F-class gas turbines for a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The plant will supply about 400 MW of electricity and process steam to a new natural gas extraction plant in Fadhili, located 100 kilometers northwest of Dammam in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom. The additional 1,100 MW will be sufficient to supply power to 1.1 million Saudi households. All five turbines will be produced at the Siemens Dammam Energy Hub (SDEH), the first manufacturing facility for gas turbines in Saudi Arabia and the largest in the Middle East.
Siemens commissioned the Tate & Lyle’s cogeneration plant at its facility in Loudon, Tennessee. Siemens delivered two SGT-700 gas turbines and two SGen-100A generators for the natural gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) system, with a maintenance plan to ensure long-term safe and reliable operations. Tate & Lyle’s Loudon plant manufactures a range of corn-based specialty and bulk food and industrial ingredients. By upgrading to these high efficiency gas turbines, the plant will reduce their operating costs while achieving higher energy output and greater fuel efficiency.
