CLEARWATER, Fla. — April is historically one of the driest months of the year in Florida, and as temperatures climb, so does water use, according to a press release.
That’s why since 1998, Florida water utilities and regulators, as well as the governor and cabinet, have declared April as Water Conservation Month, stated the release.
Residents and businesses in the Tampa Bay region are encouraged to do their part and be water smart by taking a few simple measures:
• Watering only on designated watering days
• Using a hose nozzle to prevent water waste
• Skipping a watering day when it rains.
To help residents do their part, Tampa Bay Water has an easy to use online tool available at www.tampabaywater.org/watersmarter.
Simply enter your zip code and you’ll be directed to the rules for your area, noted the release.
“Water use in our area spikes during the spring dry season,” said David Bracciano, demand management coordinator for Tampa Bay Water. “In fact, up to 50 percent of all water used ends up on lawns.”
