IOWA CITY, Iowa — Stanley Consultants was awarded two Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for the design of the wastewater treatment expansion at the South Plant located in Iowa City, Iowa, according to a press release.
The project received a National Recognition Award from ACEC and an Honor Award from ACEC – Iowa, stated the release.
Stanley Consultants led the design team for Iowa City’s $50.2 million expansion, which took two years and included multiple processes and equipment upgrades, reported the release.
With the expansion, the plant can now treat 24 million gallons per day, which is double its previous capacity, continued the release.
“The expansion design provides capacity for industrial growth and future population growth,” said Iowa City Wastewater Division Superintendent Dave Elias. “We have phased conceptual designs that take us out another 30 years and beyond on the site so we know that our wastewater infrastructure will be capable of serving the needs of Iowa City for a long time.”
For more than 25 years, Stanley Consultants has partnered with Iowa City on long-term planning and the implementation of the city’s wastewater collection and treatment system to accommodate city growth and meet environmental stewardship objectives, noted the release.
