EAST KILBRIDE, UK – As part of a £2.3 million investment, Coca-Cola European Partners (CCEP) will be replacing and upgrading a water treatment plant at its manufacturing site in East Kilbride.
The company said the new treatment plant will enable more water recovery from the site’s four manufacturing lines, saving an estimated nine million litres of water a year.
The investment forms part of a wider £56 million investment across CCEP’s six manufacturing sites in Great Britain this year. The East Kilbride site, which produces 16 million cases of product a year, to date has received £18 million of investment.
It was in 2007 when Coca-Cola set the goal to be water neutral by 2020, meaning the company would return the equivalent amount of water used in beverages and production each year.
In 2014, approximately 1.03 litres of water were used to produce a litre of product.
